We're Scales of the City, a San Francisco co-ed a cappella group that performs all around the Bay Area. Based on the model of a collegiate glee club, we're a group of performers who love singing pop music from our childhoods and today, with a sprinkling of showtunes just for kicks. We're all about making great music to share, and having a great time doing it.

Type: Mixed Contemporary  Hometown: San Francisco

Audition policy: Audition Required. Scales of the City holds auditions at the beginning of each season (usually in January) and occasionally on an as-needed basis to fill vacant positions in the group.

Rehearsal info: Rehearsals are Wednesday Nights at ODC in San Francsico.

There’s the kind of rocker you sit on, traditionally on the front porch. And then there are the 30 members of a rather extraordinary choral group called Rock the Ages. Formed six years ago, Rock the Ages was inspired by a 2008 British documentary, “Young@Heart,” that focused on the novelty of a New England senior citizen chorus singing contemporary rock and pop songs. Under the direction of Barry Blum, a professional musician and multi-instrumentalist, Rock the Ages has headlined at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley twice, opened for Huey Lewis and the News, and brought the house down at a recent concert of Bay Area choirs, most of them youth groups, at the Masonic in San Francisco.

Type: Mixed Choral Community

Specializing in doo wop and jazz arrangements, Marin Harmony has been in existence for 10 years, formerly known as Urban Harmony. A prize-winning contestant at the Marin County Fair in 2010, Marin Harmony is a fun loving community who brings joyous entertainment to families, friends, retirement communities and to each other.

Type: Mixed Contemporary Community  Hometown: San Rafael

Audition policy: Non Audition.

Rehearsal info: The chorus meets every Monday night 7:30-9:30 at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Terra Linda.

"Rita & The Cosmos" is a Marin based a cappella singing group of six sassy gals. Our group (as pictured left to right: Bobbi, Carolyn, Toni, Rita, Lauren and Gloria) was formed in 2005 when Rita assembled some musically inclined friends. Our repertoire includes a mixture of standards, jazz, pop and Broadway tunes, featuring original, upbeat, four part arrangements that will get your fingers snapping and your toes tapping! The songs reflect themes of friendship, spirituality, romance and love. Selections by Berlin and Gershwin are among the crowd-pleasing favorites. We perform at formal and informal events including cocktail and dinner parties, holiday celebrations, other special occasions, as well as at senior living centers in counties throughout the Bay area. Requests for personalized parodies are happily accommodated.

Type: Female Contemporary  Hometown: San Rafael

Aca-word

Aca-word consists mainly of high schoolers from Clayton Valley Charter High School. As a group, we focus on producing beautiful music because of our love of singing. We have performed for many school events as well as our local community. We mainly cover pop songs, always adding on new ideas to the original arrangement and we love expanding our creativity and musicality with new arrangements. As young performers, we provide a fresh, unique outlook on our pieces that we hope to bring to this competition. Although we may be "Aca-word" teenagers, we do not sound "Aca-word" when we sing!

Type: Mixed Contemporary

Founded in 1987 by Artistic Director, Jan Pedersen Schiff as a women's chorus, Wings of Song, Singers Marin today is an association of choruses for amateur and professional singers, including youth and adults, that provides expert training in vocal skills and musicianship, while presenting charitable performances and high quality concerts for the local community and beyond.

Type: Mixed Choral Childrens Choir  Hometown: Mill Valley

Audition policy: Audition Required. Audition times are available now, so don't miss out on your opportunity to explore the world with SingersMarin.

Rehearsal info: Adult Rehearsals are at the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon, Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings,  and Youth Rehearsals are at the Mt. Tamlapais Church in Mill Valley on Monday afternoons and evenings. Other days and locations for the children’s chorus.
